Abstract

Rooted in an early twentieth-century effort to accelerate the acculturation of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, Lutheran Forum began in its present form in 1967 as an independent voice of critique and commentary on issues facing contemporary Lutheranism. Over nearly five decades, the journal and its companion piece, Forum Letter, have advocated a Lutheranism evangelical and catholic. Lutheran Forum remains a lively pan-Lutheran forum, offering responsible and respectful dialogue about matters theological, ethical, liturgical, and ecclesiastical. It attempts to take participants outside their own echo by giving them the opportunity to learn from those whose views are different.
